O: Changed bandage over R clavicle - wound still very open, SQ tissue looks a little inflamed with some infectious material. Cleaned and closed wound with staples, covered with TAO, telfa/tegaderm. Bird not acting visual in hand/no tracking or menacing, has PLRs OU. On fundic, retinal detachment at the cranial pole of the pectin OD, some pale areas in retinal OS. On ground, bird clacks and moves head but does not respond appropriately to visual cues, stepped up on gloves without noticing what he was stepping up onto, not responding to very close hand waves and light touches.
Food: HF 60g R. Did not respond to presence of food, had to FF
Meloxicam: 0.22 cc (1.5 mg/ml compounded) PO

A: Bird's mentation has improved - clacking and response in cage. Bird still not finding food on own, still not acting very visual out of cage and in hand. Prognosis is very guarded.

P: Rx TMS. If no improvement by end of week, will humanely euthanize.

Temperature equal to 101.9 degrees F, lower than typical, so put back on low heating pad in cage. Bruise on R clavicle still present and green in color. Minor wound on R clavicle seems to be scabbed and healing well so opted not to apply ointment. Administered 35.40 cc LRS SQ fluids in R and L inguinals. Administered PO med while in hand. Had 40 grams of chick scrap in cage so opted to hand feed bird. Bird uninterested in HF, so FF 40 grams of chopped fish. Did not seem particularly visual in cage or in hand.

Wedge shaped retinal detachment around the 10-11 o clock region of the eye OD, not close to pectin. Drew blood from the R medial metatarsal vein. Reviewed x-rays from yesterday: no abnormalities seen. Turned off heat pad.

O: Took x-rays. Stained eyes - no uptake. Checked eyes and confirmed retinal detachment OD; didn't see any issues OS.

A: QAR. Definitely alert and responsive but very quiet at times. NSF seen on rads.

P: Set up vet check tomorrow for new pt. Rx meloxicam.

Initial treatment: Sprayed with Adams. Placed in ICU with a low heating pad.

A: QAR. Adult barred owl hit by car with no obvious fractures, luxations, etc, but possesses OD retinal tear. We'll want to monitor vision, mentation, and check for further soft tissue wounds.

P: Monitor vision. Monitor mentation. Monitor for soft tissue wounds. Collect vitals, age, blood, and fecal tomorrow. Place tail guard.
